What do you find rewarding about being a Fellow of the AAML?
I enjoy the ability to connect with matrimonial lawyers across the country, to be involved in CLE events as a speaker, and to become involved in the process of vetting new Fellows. As a Board member of the Illinois Chapter, I enjoy involvement in the management of the state organization as well.
What area of family law do you find most interesting?
I like the counseling part of the business – helping people find their way through a difficult time in their lives. I find the financial aspects and complex asset cases interesting. I like to see a complex case get resolved in an elegant and uncomplicated way.
As an AAML Fellow in Illinois, what sets you apart from other family law attorneys who are not Fellows?
The vetting process assures that people dedicated to the practice of matrimonial law are admitted, and people who dabble in the practice are not. It is the nearest thing we have in Illinois to a certification for family law practice.
Outside the office, what do you do for fun?
Write (I have a bestselling book on divorce on Amazon), snow ski, wakeboard, wakesurf, surf, collect model trains, target shoot, paintball, travel. I have a lot of outside interests!
What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?
Clients don’t know how good you are as a lawyer; they know how you make them feel.
