Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers helps Feeding Illinois raise funds in run-up to Thanksgiving
AAML-IL will donate $5,000 through matching-grant challenge to provide more than 80,000 meals throughout the state
November 1, 2021—A $5,000 matching-grant challenge to benefit Feeding Illinois, the statewide association of Feeding America Food Banks, was announced today by James Quigley, president of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML-IL). This challenge grant will run through Thanksgiving, encouraging more citizens to provide hunger relief for thousands of Illinois families in the weeks leading up to and beyond the nation’s traditional feast day.
“The resources available in a country like ours, and especially in Illinois, dictate that no one should go hungry,” Quigley said. “Feeding Illinois has made a dedicated commitment to supplying nutritious food to people in every corner of the state. We’re proud to support this not-for profit organization as it collects donations that mean so much as winter approaches.”
Donors who want to double the value of their contribution to Feeding Illinois should visit www.aaml-illinois.org and click on the link to the Feeding Illinois website. Once there, they can go to the “Donate” page and click “YES” to ensure that the contribution goes toward the AAML-IL match.
Once the challenge is met, a total of $10,000 will have been donated in less than a month to combat food insecurity through the eight food banks in the Feeding Illinois network, which reaches all 102 counties in the state.
According to executive director Steve Ericson, Feeding Illinois works directly with manufacturers, distributors and retailers to obtain safe, edible products that might otherwise go to waste. “Through these win-win partnerships and programs, every dollar donated to Feeding Illinois helps procure and safely distribute up to 10 pounds of food—the equivalent of 8 meals—through our statewide network of food banks and agencies,” Ericson said. As a result, the $10,000 total will provide more than 80,000 meals.
This program reclaims some of the enormous food waste that has led to severe hunger for so many people in the richest nation on earth. The USDA estimates that the disposal of wholesome, perfectly good food accounts for as much as 40 percent of the food supply in the United States.
Social media accounts of the AAML-IL, along with the media networks administered by the eight Illinois food banks, will spread the word about the program.
For their contribution to be matched go to Feeding Illinois directly at www.feedingillinois.org, then click “YES” on the “Donate” page.
